June 13 Insurance- medical -deductibles -Today I am going to talk about Medical insurance.
I received my "Explanation of Benefits" notice from my insurance company for my hospital bill. Overall total $116,000
through all their jargon on the side is the note: The hospital may bill you for $8,204.84....???!!!!
I was told I had a $4000.00 deductible - per person. So how does this fall into the equation? I have also received a few bills already of amounts I owe -- smaller of course -- None the less
So I pull out the "book" that is supposed to explain what my coverages are - of which they use lingo that is not in lamens terms.
It states MAXIMUM OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE.
Preferred Provider $4,000.00
Out-of-Network $8,000.00
Clearly I'm way over both amounts.
Now I have spoken to my insurance company before - of which a man told me I had $1,000.00 deductible per person. So when the bills kept rolling in on my sons ruptered spleen and my daughters broken collar bone - I was little confused. So I called them back, only to be told- no ma'am you have a $4000.00 deductible per person.
So I emailed our "insurance person" who set this whole thing up. He said, yes I did infact have a $4000.00 deductible per person or $20,000 per calendar year -
In 2005 - I hit the $20,000
I am a little reluctant to call my insurance company since I can never seem to get a correct answer out of them, I will email my insurance contact and back it up with a written letter to my insurance company - I want it in writing.
I never really paid much attention to the "health care" issue that politicans are so lovingly trying to conquer. I have insurance.
But it's not that Americans don't have coverage - It's the insurance companies in general. -- They make it to difficult to take care of ourselves the correct way - with preventitive care and employers having to pay the high prices of premiums everyone wants to push it off and make it the individual responsibe.
Which by the way reminds me. When I went for my annual ladies exam - I had to pay the full $270.00 - my insurance covered nothing on that bill..... I classify that as Preventitive care, why wouldn't they cover some of that? Not to mention my normal co-pay is $30.00 - It was $100.00 to my gynecologist.
happy writings,
